Food Bank

Jefferson Food Bank
Open 1st and 3rd Saturdays each month
10:00 – 11:30 AM

The Jefferson Food Bank is sponsored by the participating churches of the Jefferson Ecumenical Ministries (JEM) and in cooperation with the Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs of Frederick County.

With the cost of living in many Maryland counties well above the national average, many Maryland families may make choices that lead to hunger and poor nutrition. Many children go without meals. Adults struggling with low wages wonder if they have enough food to last the week. In 2012 it was estimated there were approximately 460,000 Marylanders not knowing where their next meal will come from (these are individuals who do not qualify for one of the various government sponsored food assistance programs).

The Jefferson Food Bank is one (1) of eight (8) Food Banks located in Frederick County. Our network of area food banks support any Frederick County resident who may not qualify for government sponsored programs and may be faced with emergency needs or simply need food assistance.  A typical supply of food from the Food Bank for a family of 4-6 include items such as: baked beans, tuna, stew, chili, canned chicken, pasta/sauce, canned vegetables, soup, canned fruit, cereal, peanut butter, potatoes, rice and other non-perishable food items.

Food Bank information and locations are also listed on Frederick County’s website at:  www.FrederickCountyMD.Gov/TEFAP

If you are in need of food, the Jefferson Food Bank is available to support you and your family.  No referral from the Religious Coalition is needed to receive food from the Food Bank.

How you can help:

  • Donate canned food items.  Make sure donated food is not expired, dented or damaged.
  • Food may be dropped off at the Jefferson Food Bank.
  • Give your time to assist at the Jefferson Food Bank.  Just drop by the food bank any time we are open.
  • Remember to support local food collection campaigns, such as Scouting for Food.

The Jefferson Food Bank is located next to St. Paul Lutheran Church at the rear ramp.
